How To: Manually Setup GMail on Wave
In this short tutorial I will show you how to manually setup your google mail account on Samsung Wave.
For some reason adding an Exchange ActiveSync Server or using the default “Add GMail Account” functionality didn’t work for me or had a strange effect (i.e. the messages were downloaded backwards starting from a certain point in the past).
I suppose that the problem is in bad default gmail configuration settings. I suppose, this will be fixed in the feature by the bada team. Until then, you can easily fix it by setting all the configuration manually.
Step 1
In your main menu go to Accounts > Add account. Instead of selecting Google Mail select Others.
Step 2
Enter the account name (just anything you want to name it), your email address, username and google password. Use your email as username (including the @xxxxxxxxx.yyy).
After you hit next, you will probably see a “checking” dialog for a few moments. Just wait till it closes.
Step 3
The last configuration step is where you have to enter all the google server settings manually. Use these:
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP port: 587
Secure Connection: TLS
Incoming server type: IMAP4
IMAP4 Server: imap.gmail.com
IMAP4 Port: 993
Secure Connection: SSL
Don’t forget to activate IMAP in you Google Mail account (Login into Your GMail account > Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP > IMAP Access > Enable IMAP).
Now you will be able to download all your emails to your device (just go to Email > Select your accout > Menu > Download)!
Extra Tip
By default, only the email title and headers are downloaded, which saves bandwidth (if you do not have flat rate or if you use data roaming in a foreign country) and increases the performance.
If you want to read the message body, click on the email message you want and select “Retrieve” from the menu.
Enjoy! =)

Finally a way to get GMail on he Wave that actually works well. Thanks, sparky!
The thing with the downloading of subjects only is a great thing, too. Saves time and money! I want to download the body of only those email messages that interest me!

Make sure you have imap activated in your gmail account:
Don’t forget to activate IMAP in you Google Mail account (Login into Your GMail account > Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP > IMAP Access > Enable IMAP).

Mine worked from the first time, and I can access emails using the IMAP settings, however:
1) The behaviour is as if I use POP … A message read on phone is not marked read on server
2) I can’t see any of my Gmail folders
3) I can’t increase the frequency of checking emails. Minimum I have by phone settings is 30 minutes.
Any advise regarding any of the points above?
Thanks
Vali
